The 50 + 1 Reunion that had been tentatively re-scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2021 at a local hall has been cancelled.

We are disappointed to provide this notice, but it probably does not come as a surprise to most of you. Without too lengthy of an explanation, CTR, Inc.- the company assisting us- and our committee leadership have come to the realization that due to circumstances beyond our control, it does not make sense to continue efforts to have an inside event.

The continuing COVID pandemic, with new variations arising and despite the increasing number of vaccinations and some improvement in case numbers, still has caused the State of Michigan to continue restrictions on indoor gatherings. The latest Order taking effect this Friday limit the attendance below what we would need to satisfy our contract, with restrictions on the number of people at a table, and a total prohibition of “mingling” and use of a dance floor.

Further, we have been unable to work out an acceptable contract with the hall for return of any installment payments we make to them, in the event that our party can’t be held because of continuing state restrictions.

This decision is being made now before CTR, Inc. has to incur substantial time and expense to assemble an up-dated list of addresses for mailing invitations, which would need to take place over the next two months. We have mitigated our contractual responsibility to them by mutual agreement.

For the few of you who paid for tickets and supplemental items last year, refunds will be issued by CTR, Inc. in the near future.

However, we would like to propose that we schedule an informal out-door get-together at a Livonia park to be determined for a Saturday in late Summer.  Our thought would be that folks can bring food and drinks (or perhaps share passing dishes, etc.). The state restrictions on outdoor gatherings would certainly accommodate whatever numbers of classmates would attend, although as of now face masks would still be required.

So, we solicit your thoughts and ideas including a suggested date(s) on this proposal, and whether you would be willing to attend. If there is sufficient interest, we will schedule this gathering and obtain a park permit from the city.

In conclusion, we hope you understand that your committee has spent much time over the past 1 1/2 years to arrange an enjoyable and memorable event, and we are very disappointed that the cards continue to be stacked against us. It’s not prudent to base a decision on hope, especially when significant costs would be incurred that would have to be paid in any event. But this decision has been made in good faith taking into consideration all the factors.
